Cat facts.

❀ Ailurophilia is the “love of cats.”

❀ Egyptians shaved their eyebrows as a sign of mourning when they lost a beloved cat.

❀ According to myth, a cat sleeping with all four paws tucked under means cold weather is coming.

❀ A cat that bites you after you have rubbed his stomach, is probably biting out of pleasure, not anger.

❀ 95% of all cat owners admit they talk to their cats.

❀ Cats are the sleepiest of all mammals.   They spend 16 hours of each day sleeping.  With that in mind, a seven year old cat has only been awake for two years of its life!

❀ Many experts report that cats will purr when feeling any intense emotion (pleasure or pain).

❀ Cats rub up against other cats, and people, in an attempt to “mark” them with their scent glands.  They most often use the scent glands between their eye and ear (near the temple area) or their scent glands near the base of their tail.

❀ Cats are partially color blind.   They have the equivalency of human red/green color blindness.  (Reds appear green and greens appear red;  or shades thereof.)

❀ “Sociable” cats will follow you from room to room to monitor your activities throughout the day.

❀ A cat will almost never “meow” at another cat.  This sound is reserved for humans.

❀ Cats knead with their paws when they’re happy.

❀ If your cat is near you, and her tail is quivering, this is the greatest expression of love your cat can give you. If her tail starts thrashing, her mood has changed —- Time to distance yourself from her.

❀ There are more than 500 million domestic cats in the world, with 33 different breeds.

❀ Killing a cat was punishable by death in ancient Egypt.

❀ If your cat snores or rolls over on his back to expose his belly, it means he trusts you

When the front paws are curled up and tucked in, and the back legs are outstretched to the side, your cat is relaxed and secure.

❀ When your cat stares at you and then squints or closes his eyes. That is a huge sign of affection - in the cat world, that is the signal to other cats that this cat is not a threat.

❀ When a cat licks you, it can serve several purposes. Grooming, affection (which grooming is a part of), tasting, and leaving their scent on you.

I’m worried about that 5% who doesn’t talk to their cats.

The other five percent are lying.

They reserve the truth for their cats.

Another common tendency in the post-Civil Rights era is to automatically link “people of color” with “unqualified” and “whites” to “qualified.” Bonilla-Silva analyzes this trend as well. Any time a non-white person occupies a position of authority, prestige, or power, they come under suspicion of getting a “free ride” or “handout.” The ironic thing about this is that, since its inception, affirmative action has benefitted middle-class white females more than any other group in American society. White females account for approximately 80 percent of affirmative action’s beneficiaries since the policies were originated in the early 1970s. Yet, how often do you hear white women angrily moaning that they are enjoying “free rides” and “hand outs” at the expense of white males?

jhameia:

just because it is an opinion

does not mean it is intrinsically valid or valuable

does not mean it is simply an aside incapable of causing harm

does not mean it even has to be said

especially if it is factually incorrect and a continuation of falsehoods that drive in problems rather than ease them

so just because it is an opinion does not mean we can’t tell you it isn’t welcome

and maybe

if you back your thoughts up with FACTS rather than OPINIONS

you wouldn’t feel so attacked and hurt when people cut your OPINION down to its rightful place

it’s a poor life that can only rely on OPINION for worth

especially on opinions based on utterly wrong statements and uncritical thought

I saw a news report about this on T.V., she was a straight A Student who had perfect attendance and everything. Everyone loved and respected her for her skills, but when she started this experiment and people thought she was pregnant, they started treating her like garbage. Even her teachers started looking down on her like she was scum of the earth. The only people who knew she was doing this as an experiment were her school principle, her health care teacher and her father. Her own mother thought she was pregnant.I mean even her friends turned on her, it was horrid. Very very sad, and as soon as she revealed during an assembly that the pregnancy was false, a lot of people were in shock as she brought up all the horrible things they said and did to her because they thought she was pregnant. The reason for the experiment was to see how people would react and treat her if they thought she was pregnant, as apposed as to treating her as the straight A “Perfect” student they usually did. And it proved that people were horrible scumbags too her as soon as they thought she was.

Doesn’t that say something about how jobs and education work in this country?
I mean, shouldn’t one’s academic carreer be more focused on, say…how much you learn? Or your willingness to learn? Instead of willpower and the self-control to hold back? Shouldn’t school focus on not holding back? Maybe not in all areas, yes, but in a lot of very crucial areas like teaching kids to question and break down preconceived notions instead of teaching them how to follow rules.
